Research Synthesis of the Effects of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

2000-2002

The Research Synthesis of the Effects of TANF project synthesized the most current research information available on the effect of TANF on income, earnings, receipt of government benefits, and family formation and structure, for individuals and families who were potentially affected by welfare reform, including both current and former TANF recipients, as well as others at risk of becoming dependent on cash assistance. It also synthesized information available from research on the amount and duration of welfare and other benefits such as Medicaid, childcare, child support and food stamps. Finally, in addition to synthesizing research in subject areas that have been extensively studied, it also documented areas that have not been studied to identify possible ideas for future research.
