Research Center to Support Secondary Analyses of Head Start Impact Study Data

2011-2015

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation (OPRE) awarded one cooperative agreement in August 2011 as part of the funding announcement “Research Center to Support Secondary Analyses of Head Start Impact Study Data.” This grant, awarded to New York University, supported secondary analyses of the Head Start Impact Study to answer questions related to the characteristics of effective Head Start centers, classrooms, and teachers. Specifically the Center’s goals were to (a) strengthen our understanding of the relationship between center, classroom, and teachers’ characteristics and Head Start’s impact by supporting a set of studies with varied but strong methodological approaches to addressing this issue; (b) build a consortium of researchers conducting complementary studies of the relationship between characteristics of Head Start centers, classrooms, and teachers and impacts on children and families, and build a community of researchers with expertise and knowledge of the Head Start Impact Study; and (c) facilitate the application of state-of-the-art analytic techniques in the analysis of Head Start Impact Study data.

Principal Investigator for the grant was Pamela Morris, New York University. Co-Principal Investigators were Howard Bloom, MDRC, and Hiro Yoshikawa, Harvard University.

Point(s) of contact: Mary Bruce Webb and Christine Fortunato.
