Who:
Tammy is a wife and mother of four children who worked as a certified nurse aide.

When: Applied: 2017; Employed: 2019
She applied to the GoodCare Career Pathways Program in 2017 and completed medication aide classes as a way to earn more money. Tammy returned to HPOG in 2018 to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) and completed training in 2019. She started working that same year and obtained higher-paying employment in 2021.

Why: Support the Family
Tammy and her husband were doing their best to support their family, but they were low on money. She wanted to be able to provide more for them and grow her career in the healthcare field.

Where: Lynchburg, VA
Tammy completed medication aide training at Raspberry Hill and her LPN courses at the Central College of Nursing in Lynchburg, VA.

What: Medication Aide and LPN
While attending LPN training, Tammy worked as a medication aide earning $10.45 per hour. In 2019, she first started working as an LPN making $15.37 per hour but later found a job at Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation earning $24.75 per hour.
