Who:
Jay was struggling to support himself while working in the food service industry.

When: Applied: 2018; Employed: 2021
He joined the Health Careers NW program in March 2018. He began certified nursing assistant (CNA) training in May 2018 and completed his coursework and clinicals in June 2018. Jay was accepted into Linfield University’s registered nursing (RN) program, graduated, and was licensed in January 2021. He is employed as of February 2021.

Why: Inspiring Career Coach
Jay wanted to pursue a career in nursing but had no previous education or work experience. HPOG helped him get started and his career coach, Ashley, fully supported and helped him navigate through the process.

Where: Portland, OR
He completed CNA training at Caregiver Training Institute in Portland, OR and graduated from the RN program at Linfield University. He obtained employment at Legacy Emanuel Hospital.

What: CNA and RN
Jay received supportive services such as scrubs, textbooks, bus passes, a laptop, gas cards, a printer, a tablet, and work shoes. He is now working full-time as registered nurse in the surgery unit, earning $45 per hour.
