LIHEAP DCL About an Upcoming GAO Request

Dear Colleague:

We wanted to give you advance notice about an upcoming request from the General Accounting Office (GAO) that will be made to all states.  GAO will issue a letter next week asking for follow up information from you about the effect that the June 2010 GAO report has had on your LIHEAP administration and what program changes you have made as a result of their recommendations.  GAO is looking for a broad summary*this is not an extensive survey.  Also, this is not a new audit that GAO is undertaking.  The information you provide will not be published, and your response to the GAO letter is purely voluntary and not statutorily required.

GAO will include more details in the letter to be issued.  We encourage you to take a few moments to respond to the GAO letter and provide them with information on the state*s LIHEAP program integrity initiatives.
