Today I spoke at an event with the Houston, Texas, human trafficking health consortium to announce a new partnership to combat human trafficking. I am pleased to say HHS’ Administration for Children and Families is now partnering with CHI Saint Luke’s Health to incorporate our Stop, Observe, Ask and Respond (SOAR) health and wellness trainings on human trafficking into their learning management system.
It was an honor to join Saint Luke’s CEO, Dr. Doug Lawson, this morning to make this announcement in Texas. The SOAR trainings are free, online and accredited training on human trafficking developed in collaboration with health care providers, victim assistance organizations and survivors of human trafficking. These trainings equip professionals with skills to identify, treat and provide trauma-informed responses to human trafficking.
Last year, more than 5,000 individuals around the country received our SOAR training. Since we launched the training five years ago, we have seen a higher proportion of calls into our national human trafficking hotline – 888-373-7888 – from health care providers seeking to connect victims to services and assistance. CHI Saint Luke’s will now help add to our efforts to identify and help victims of human trafficking.
